Marcus Chown is a British-born journalist and science writer. He was educated at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and mathematics. He has also worked as an editor for several scientific journals and as a freelance writer. He was awarded a PhD from Massey University in 1992, and his thesis is entitled "The Dark Side of the Universe: The Search for Dark Matter".
