in psychology from Western Washington University in 1971, and earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of California at Irvine (1976). He has taught at the University of Illinois and the University of Colorado, and has also served as consultant to a number of organizations including the U.S.
Department of Education's Office for Educational Research and Improvement (OERI), The National Science Foundation (NSF), OERI, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). He is married, has two children, and is a member of several local faith-based groups, including the Community of Christ's First Quorum of Seventy and the North American Conference on Religion and Science (NACRS).
