Mairead is a former school teacher who now writes full time. She has co-written 12 novels, three non-fiction books for children, and numerous short stories. Her award-winning first novel, The Last September, was published in 1986 to critical acclaim. She has won numerous prizes for her writing, including the Books Ireland Award for Best New Writer in 2003
She has lived in Ireland since 1993.
