She played minor roles in several films including Evita, Dick Tracy and Dune before landing her first major role as the lead singer of the band Ciccone. The band had a string of hits including "Everybody" and "Hot Stuff." Madonna then began a solo career that included worldwide success with singles such as "Like a Virgin," "Material Girl," and "Into the Groove." She has won eight Grammy awards, including one for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. In 1987, Madonna was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Shortly after this honor, she married Guy Ritchie who directed the movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. In 1996 Madonna made her directorial debut with Evita. In 2001 she published her autobiography Childe: Memoirs of an Outlaw; it went on to become a bestseller and was adapted into a feature film directed by Alan Parker and starring Scarlett Johansson as Madonna.
Since then Madonna has continued to work as an actress and singer/songwriter while also picking up other roles such as writer and producer for various films such as Shanghai Surprise (2007), Filth And Wisdom (2008), Swept Away (2002) and Body of Lies (2008).
