Baroness Caroline Necker was a Swiss philanthropist and a philanthropic society founder, who lived in Geneva during the 18th century. She created the first school for girls in Switzerland. In 1777, she founded the First school for girls in Geneva. In 1794, she founded the "Ladies' Society for the Promotion of Domestic Industry," which was renamed in her honor to become "Caroline Necker Academy" in 1808. Born to a Swiss pastor and his wife, Caroline Necker was raised in Basel and educated by private tutors before attending the University of Basel and receiving her degree in theology at the University of Geneva. Their son Jean-Jacques (1782–1857) was named after his maternal grandfather. While living in Paris, she met Baron Abraham de Necker (1753–1836), an astronomer and physicist who had been director of the Mint, and was married to him on September 19, 1787. She became prominent among European leaders of her age through her efforts to establish educational institutions: she established schools for girls and received government aid for their maintenance.

When her husband died suddenly in 1833, she retired from public life. She died on July 12, 1866.
