Macklemore is a hip hop artist from Seattle, Washington. He has released 3 studio albums: The Heist, which was released in September 2012, and two independently-released EPs, titled Gemini and The VS. He was signed to Glassnote Entertainment Group in 2010, a label run by his producer Ryan Lewis. Macklemore also has a partnership with Nike that includes designing for some of their sneakers. Macklemore's latest single, "Thrift Shop", featuring Wanz (from Odd Future), was released on August 25, 2013; it reached number one on the iTunes chart in 28 countries, including the United States. Macklemore also collaborated with Ryan Lewis on the song "Same Love" for Macklemore's debut studio album The Heist.
The song became an anthem for same-sex marriage rights in the United States after it was featured in three television commercials for ads supporting Proposition 8.
