Lucy Ellmann is a British writer and editor who has written more than a dozen books of fiction and nonfiction for adults and children. Her novels include the internationally bestselling The Memory Keeper's Daughter, which won both the Orange Prize and the Booker Prize, and the New York Times Notable Book "The Blind Assassin," winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. She has written articles for The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Harper's Magazine, and many other publications. Ellmann was born in London in 1948
She spent her early childhood in South Africa, then moved with her family to London when she was nine. A graduate of Oxford University with a degree in English literature, she started working for a variety of newspapers while at university, including a stint as a university recruiter in Hong Kong. She completed her first novel while on maternity leave from her job as a reporter for "The Sunday Times." Ellmann lives near London with her husband and two sons.
