Louis Kossuth was a Hungarian author, political activist, and one of the most prominent advocates of the Hungarian national cause. In 1820 he published a revolutionary pamphlet entitled The History of the Hungarian People from the Conquest by the Magyars up to 1848, which is considered a seminal work in Hungarian historiography. For this book, his arrest and imprisonment in 1848, and his later emigration to America, he is considered a hero by both Hungarians and non-Hungarians.
