Born in 1907, Lorene Stunson Hill grew up in southern Indiana, where she became a voracious reader. As a young girl, she loved to read the stories of the great pioneers and settlers of America. Later, she would become an avid reader of novels about love and romance. However, many years later in life, when reading the stories of her own ancestors, she discovered that most of them were also born during the time of the American Revolution

She was intrigued by this discovery and started to look for more information about her ancestors. Her quest led her back to Washington County, Indiana where she learned that her ancestors had been soldiers during the American Revolutionary War. She began researching these soldiers and found that one was her ancestor, Cornelius Hill.
Lorene Stunson Hill became somewhat obsessed with learning about this ancestor. She went on to write the book about his life called "The Last Revolutionary".
