George Henry Seymour Milverton was born in 1849. He was an English lawyer, writer, poet, playwright, famous for his satirical poems, political pamphlets and his use of the pen name Lord Milverton. He served as a midshipman on HMS Agamemnon during the Anglo-Zulu War in 1879. After leaving the navy at the age of 21 he entered Middle Temple College to study law and was called to the bar in 1883. He settled in London where he practised as a barrister until retiring to his country estate near Alconbury in Huntingdonshire. He died on January 4th 1904 aged 72.
