Loraine Boettner was born in Columbia City, Indiana, in 1916. She married James E. Boettner, but they later divorced. Her husband became a journalist for the "Columbia City Enterprise" in Columbia City, Indiana, and she continued to write for the paper until her death
Her articles on local history are still being used by students of Columbia City High School. She was a member of the Columbia City Community Church where she taught Sunday School for more than forty years. Since her death the Boettners have donated many of her books to schools across the country.
