Lindsey Davis is the pen name of Victoria Holt, who was born in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and educated at the Sorbonne. Her first novel, The Winter Guest, was published in 1968. It won the Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger Award for Best Readable Mystery. It has since been filmed twice, in 1985 and again in 1996, this time starring Emma Thompson with Ben Chaplin as Lord Peter Wimsey
Another of her novels, The Golden Grove, was adapted into a television series starring Miranda Richardson in 1998. Davis's most recent novel is A Taste for Death (2011), the third in the Wimsey series; starring Geraldine James as Lord Peter.
