Lillian Strange was born in London in 1894, and grew up in Somerset. She was educated at Westfield College and then studied art at the Slade School of Art, where she met her future husband, Roland Strange. They married in 1925 and went to live in Margate on the Kent coast. During the Second World War the couple joined the Home Guard
After the war Strange travelled widely and exhibited her paintings, while her husband worked on his books and on film scripts. She died in 1976, but her work is represented in national and international collections.
