Gutkind is the author of nine books of fiction and nonfiction, including Science Fiction: A Pretty Good Guide (Routledge 2005), which was named one of the best books of the year by Booklist. As a screenwriter, he has written a number of feature films and television scripts, including the Emmy Award-winning program The Love Boat. He has also written over sixty short stories, twenty of which have been published in magazines such as Playboy and Sports Illustrated.
