Larry McCleary is a professional writer, author, and teacher. He has published three novels that have been translated into Japanese, Russian, Hungarian, Japanese, and Spanish. The best-selling novel was his third work of fiction, Big Red, which was later adapted into a successful Japanese television series created by the legendary Shohei Imamura. His second novel was his third work of fiction, Black Gold, which won the prestigious Akutagawa Prize in Japan
Larry teaches creative writing at Columbia College Chicago and at New York University. He is also the author of an award winning book on poetry for children called A World of Words: Poems for Every Child.
