Larry Hogan was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 2, 1939. He graduated from City College of New York in 1962, earning a degree in engineering. During his time at the University of Maryland, Larry met his wife, Nancy, and later married her. In 1969, Larry went into private practice as a lawyer. In 1983 he was elected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Howard County.
In 1987, Larry was elected as Howard County Executive, serving as Howard County's first executive as well as its first Democratic Executive since 1929. In 1994 Governor William Donald Schaefer appointed him to the Maryland Transportation Authority Board of Directors, where he served until 2000. In 2010 he was elected to his second term as Howard County Executive.
