Kobe Bryant, born on August 23, 1978, is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. He played one year of high school basketball at Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, before being drafted by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th overall pick in the 1997 NBA draft. He played two seasons of college basketball for the team before being drafted fifth overall by the Lakers in the 2001 NBA draft. After losing his starting position twice during his first three seasons, he won his first championship with the Lakers during the 2009–10 season. He also has played for the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat.
