Katsuhiro Otomo is a Japanese manga artist and director. He is known for creating the popular manga/anime series "Akira" and directing the live-action movie adaptation. Otomo was born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1952 and studied art at Aichi Gakuin University and Osaka University. He became a full-time mangaka in 1973 and has since created dozens of titles, including the acclaimed "Akira" which won him the 1978 Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize.
