Kate Mara was born in New York City and grew up there and in Connecticut. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in English and moved to Los Angeles, where she began working as a casting director and eventually as an actress. In 2006, she was cast as Carol Marcus in the FOX series 24, which earned her five Emmy nominations. Her latest film project is the thriller The Stanford Prison Experiment, which will be released by Netflix in 2014
