Kashish Gurung was born in Nepal. After receiving her master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, she returned to Nepal to work as a chemical engineer for 10 years. Then she started writing poetry and short stories, which led to her first book, The Girl Who Loved the Snow, published by Penguin Books. Her literary awards include the prestigious Ranjit Tudikar Award (2007), the Sahitya Academy Award (2011), and the Ministry of Culture's Book Award (2012). Her poems have appeared in several anthologies, including Woman Alive: Stories by Women Writers of Nepal (2011). Kashish is co-founder and president of Auroville International Foundation (AIF), an organization that promotes peace through creativity and social service.
