Karen Swan grew up in the tiny town of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. After earning her BA in English and American Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she moved to New York City to pursue a career as an editor. It was her desire to write that led her to enroll in the fiction writing program at NYU where she received her MFA in 2006
Her first novel, The Art of Losing, was published by Simon & Schuster/Atria Books in March 2013.
