Julia Joanne Black was born in Atlanta, Georgia and has been writing since she could string together two words. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Southern Maine. She has written for such publications as The New York Times, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and many others. Her work has appeared in Farrar Straus and Giroux's anthology "The Best American Mystery Stories 2004," and in The Best American Crime Reporting 2005
