John Michael Romero, also known as "Romero", is an American video game designer and video game programmer. He is best known for creating the game Doom, which was influential in the creation of first-person shooters. He is also known for his involvement with id Software, which he co-founded in 1991 along with Tom Hall. He was also responsible for designing the game Daikatana, which was cancelled before its release in 2001. Romero has worked on several non-game projects since leaving id Software in 2004. Romero has also contributed to the development of many other video games over the years, including Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty 5: World at War, Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty 7: Black Ops, and Call of Duty 8: Modern Warfare 3.
