John L. O'Sullivan, an independent historian and community activist, was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1866. He is remembered as a "historian of the American West" and a student of the American political process. He served as a U.S
House of Representatives Representative from the 14th Congressional District of Illinois from 1911 to 1915. In addition to his political career, O'Sullivan was a historian, journalist, and author. His writings include "American Empire: The Rise and Decline of the United States as a Great Power", "Arms for Liberty", "The Twentieth Century: A History", among other works.
