John Bardeen is the only person to have won the Nobel Prize in Physics twice. He was born in 1920 in Muskego, Wisconsin, where he grew up. He worked on the development of the transistor during WWII and later went on to win the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956 for his work on semiconductors with William Shockley. After Shockley's resignation, Bardeen moved to Texas to work at Bell Laboratories where he invented the tunnel diode, which contributed to the invention of the transistor.
