J.M. McDermott is a teacher and writer. In 2014 she won the National Magazine Award for Fiction for her work in The MacGuffin Review. She teaches at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver and was a columnist for The Tyee from 2010-2015. J.M.'s recent publications include the novel "Her Name Was Nora," a collection of short stories titled "The Clerk’s Palace," a biography of Canadian poet Leonard Cohen, a book of poems about dogs titled "Doggy," and a collection of poetry called "The Book of Answers."
