J.L. Clayton is the author of six published books, including her first work of fiction, A Wolf in the Sun, published in 2012. She has also written articles for various publications on topics related to energy conservation, renewable energy development, and energy efficiency. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Florida, and a Masters of Arts degree in English from Eastern Washington University

She was a member of both the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and the Epsilon Pi chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars at Eastern Washington University. She was also a member of the Eastern Washburn High School honor society and attended both the University of Florida and Eastern Washington University on scholarship. She currently lives in Washington State with her husband and children.
