Kim previously served as the Bank's Vice President for Operations and Management Development since 2003 and as its President since 2009. From 1999 to 2003, he was the Bank's Vice President for Global Health and Development Programs. Mr.
Kim has worked at the World Health Organization (WHO), where he held several senior positions, including Director of the Department of HIV/AIDS and Vaccine Preventable Diseases and Director of Global Enterprise Systems and Global Information Management. He also served as WHO's Head of Global Policy Planning and Budgeting, Associate Director-General for Strategic Planning and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining WHO, Mr.
Kim held various financial management positions in New York City at Citigroup; First American; Lehman Brothers; and Safeway Inc., among others. He was also an adjunct professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of International Affairs and Commerce (GSIC) from 1994 to 2003 while working at WHO. At GSIC, Mr.
Kim taught a course on "Financial Management for Public Sector Leaders." Mr. Kim received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Amherst College in economics in 1980; his M.B.A., magna cum laude, from Columbia University Graduate School of Business in 1983; and an honorary D.Sc., honoris causa from Amherst College in 2001 for his contribution to public health policymaking both within the United States and internationally."
