Louis until she married George Washburn, a lawyer. They accompanied her father to the Green River rendezvous in what is now Nebraska where they were among the first white settlers there. They settled on the Platte River in 1838 settling down near present-day Denver and started a family.
The following year Washburn was killed by Indians and Jerusalem and her three children moved to Leavenworth where she worked as a teacher and later as a school matron. In 1858, she moved to Kansas City and continued working as a school matron and teacher. She died on August 27, 1886 in Kansas City, Kansas at age 73.
