James T. Farrell (1895-1962) was an American novelist, poet, playwright, and screenwriter. He is best remembered for his novel "The Young Lions", which won the 1948 National Book Award, and was adapted into a motion picture of the same name. A prolific contributor to theater, Farrell also wrote the screenplays for the 1952 film "The Naked City" and the 1956 musical "Bye Bye Birdie", both of which also starred Humphrey Bogart.
