James Carl Nelson is the author of more than thirty novels and short-story collections, most recently Dead Man's Hand (2012), Lost Voices (2011), and The White Death (2008). He is also the author of the novels The Unusual Suspect (2002), The Promise (2001), and The Other Side of Nowhere (1998), as well as a number of novella-length works. He has been a speaker at many conferences on writing and publishing, including the Eastern Regional Writing Institute at Eastern Michigan University, the Sun Valley Writers' Conference, and the National Writers Association Conference. His short fiction has been published in numerous magazines and anthologies, including "Best American Mystery Stories" as well as "The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror." Many of his stories have been set in the fictional town of New Hope, Indiana. He lives near Indianapolis with his wife and daughter.
