LaLanne then opened his own physical therapy office in his home town of Oakland, CA. He worked out of his garage until he was forced to move into a storefront due to the popularity of his weekly "Health Shop" television show on KGO-TV (NBC) in San Francisco. With no prior experience as an actor LaLanne soon became one of television's most popular stars, appearing on the covers of Time and Newsweek magazines.
Not only was he an entertainer LaLanne also became a successful businessman. He used his show to promote products such as exercise equipment, vitamins, and a line of weight loss supplements called "LaLanne Power," which sold over 250 million bottles throughout the world.
