Hyeonseo Lee is a Korean-American author, filmmaker and activist. In 2006, Lee was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States, by President George W. Bush. She is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author, known for her debut work of nonfiction "In the Shadow of the Sun," a memoir about her experiences volunteering in North Korea to provide care for children infected with HIV/AIDS.
