Horton Foote is an American playwright and novelist, known for his work in theatre and film. He was a member of the Group Theatre from its formation in 1937 until 1948. In 1950 Foote directed his first film, The Horse's Mouth, which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Film. In 1951 he directed his second film, The Young Lions, which starred Marlon Brando as a Nazi war criminal
In 1960 Foote directed his first television play for Studio One.
