from Stanford University in 1998, where he worked with Professor Donald E. Knuth on the design of TeX. Lipson’s research is focused on distributed computing systems that are used for scientific, engineering or mathematical computation, and their application to problems such as parallel and distributed algorithms, information retrieval and data mining, and robotic manipulation and exploration.
His research has been funded by NSF and DARPA and has been recognized by many awards, including three best paper prizes: At SIGMOD (1998), ICML (2001) and NIPS (2005).
