Harold Edgerton, Ph.D. was an American physicist who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1959 "for his pioneering investigations of the electronic structure of matter, especially the most stable atomic nuclei." He was one of the pioneers of the field of quantum electronics and developed a new method for producing X-rays by firing electrons at ultrashort optical waves. He also developed a method for making television images using mirrors with very short focal lengths. His most famous work is related to his discovery of the photoelectric effect, showing that light could be used to generate electricity.
