Hannah Hurnard was a British mystic and author. She wrote a number of spiritual, mystical and faith-based books, which were widely read in the 19th century, and also wrote a number of devotional works. Hurnard became known as a spiritual writer as a result of the popularity of her "Blessed Breath" prayer series. In the 1870s, she began to be known as a writer of devotional material, writing under the name "Hannah Hurnard"
Her works include My Heavenly Gift, Letters from God, My Heavenly Gift to You, The Blessed Breath of Jesus Christ, The Blessed Breath of Jesus Christ to You, The Blessed Breath of Jesus Christ for All, Thoughts from the Heart of Jesus Christ, Thoughts from the Heart of Jesus Christ for All and The Blessed Breath of Jesus Christ for All. She also wrote a book called "The Higher Life", which was not published until 1849. In this work she describes how to attain perfection by means of prayer and meditation.
In 1877 she wrote "The Higher Life".
