Gustav Heinemann (1890-1943) was a German psychiatrist who is best known for his work documenting the mental condition of concentration camp inmates. His research into the psychological problems of concentration camp inmates led to the discovery of "Denkpause" (thought pause), which is often defined as the ability to focus on the task at hand despite emotional disturbances. He was also a pioneer in the study of psychotherapy in internment camps, establishing the first therapeutic center for displaced persons, which provided relief services to people during and after World War II.
