Grady Nutt was born in Gainesville, Georgia in 1954. He earned an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Georgia and went on to earn a graduate degree from the University of Missouri. He began his career as a journalist in college before becoming a reporter for several Gainesville area newspapers including The Gainesville Sun and The Daily Times.
