Gordon Gee is a well-known newspaper columnist, author, and speaker. He served as the chancellor of the University of Michigan from 2001 to 2007. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he attended college at The Ohio State University and later received a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University. By 1973 he was a national editor for United Press International. While working at UPI, Gee entered into a relationship with his former boss's wife, Mary Ann Gee, who was a reporter for The Columbus Dispatch. In 1982 he was named The Columbus Dispatch's managing editor and became editor-in-chief in 1990.
He was named the first chancellor of The Ohio State University in 2001. In November 2007, he stepped down as chancellor and retired from teaching at Ohio State and from UPI.
