Giuseppe Prezzolini was born in Chiavari, Italy, to a noble family. In 1828 he went to Venice where he studied art and architecture. In 1836 Prezzolini moved to Florence where he met the great Italian masters. In 1845, he became a professor of architecture at the University of Florence
He also began a literary career, contributing to the pre-Renaissance journal Lo Strega. Prezzolini died in Florence on September 15, 1876.
