The film was sold to director Spike Lee's production company for distribution on the condition that Prince-Bythewood be hired to direct the sequels. She went on to direct "I Am Legend" (2007), which was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Her other credits include the Oscar-nominated documentary "The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution" (2005), which she also co-directed, and "The Secret Life of Bees" (2008).
