Collins has produced four short story collections: Westerns (1964), Erotic Westerns (1979), African American Stories (1989) and The Color of Love (1993). He is also the author of two collections of essays: I Thought That Was My Husband; And Other Tales From the South (1990), which won the Southern Book Award; and When You Get to Heaven (1992). He has written more than fifty books, many of which are about the South, including several books about Caudill.
