Garth Davis was born in Melbourne, Australia. He studied filmmaking at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne. After graduating, he joined the Australian television series comedy program "Frontline" where he worked for two years. He also worked on several short films in Australia and New York
Davis moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film where he is currently writing and directing his first feature film "Lion". Davis is married to actress Rachel Griffiths. They have two daughters together.
