Frank Shorter is an American athlete and winner of the gold medal in the marathon at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. He later attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in economics and a Master's degree in physical education. In 1964, he won the New York City Marathon with a time of 2:15:57. In 1966, he won his first U.S.
national marathon championship with a time of 2:15:34 at the Texas Relays . In 1967, he achieved his lifetime best performance with 2:07:28 at Boston Marathon . Shorter also has personal bests of 2:06:30 for 10,000 meters (1965), 1:58:40 for 5000 meters (1967), 6:17 for one mile (1968), 4:03 for 1500 meters (1968), and 3:47 for 10,000 meters (1979).
