Francis Ponge (1912-1988) was a French poet, essayist, and writer of short stories. He is most famous for his "small new prose" or "nouvelles expérimentales". He also wrote poetry, some of it in collaboration with Pierre Seghers. His work was widely translated, and he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1968.
