F.H. Bradley (1846-1924) was a British philosopher whose work influenced James Hillman and other perennialists. He was a friend of William James and Henri Bergson and published essays on the topics of art, religion, and education. He is best known for his essay "The Ethical Aspect of the aesthetic," in which he argues that beauty, fundamentally an aspect of health, is intrinsically good
He believed that the "aesthetic value" of a thing was independent of its utility to human purposes. His two most important works are Appearance and Reality (1893) and Ethical Studies, vol. 1 (1893).
