An American writer and editor, Fanny Merkin was born in New York City of Jewish parents. She is the author of four novels: The Gaudy Pearl, The Repentant, The Golden Season, and The Silver Slipper. Her first book of short stories, "A Moth Doth Eat a Peach," won a prize from the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1946. Her second collection of short stories, "In the Land of the Young," appeared from Viking Press in 1951
In 1954 her story collection "The Garden" appeared from Viking Press. In 1966 she published "The Silver Slipper," a novel with a child as its hero. In 1972 her last novel, "The Golden Season," was published.
