Eric Vance Walton is a retired United States Air Force lieutenant colonel, and an author of science fiction and non-fiction books. He is the author of "Vortex: The Secret History of the Quest for Gravitational Waves," which won the 2009 Pegasus Award in the general science category. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1980 with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering Technology.

He also completed Squadron Officer School that same year while serving as an exchange officer with the Royal Netherlands Air Force at Volkel Air Base in Holland. He later served as an instructor at the Academy's Air Command and Staff College before being stationed in the Pentagon as an operations officer at Headquarters United States Air Force. While stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, he was awarded "Outstanding Unit Award" for his work on the Joint Chiefs of Staff staff providing advice to Secretary of Defense William Cohen on issues related to national security during his final year of service. Walton retired from active duty in 2005 after 23 years of service to the United States Air Force.

Upon retirement he worked as a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton where he provided strategic planning support to senior military leaders throughout the Department of Defense on issues related to national security issues including intelligence agencies, homeland security, research and development agencies and intelligence organizations worldwide.
