Elena Ricci is the founder of the Human Rights Organisation, “The Network for Human Rights in Former Yugoslavia”. Her work in this field has been recognised through several awards, including the "European Parliament Intergroup for Human Rights" Award in 1999, "Human Rights Defender Award" at the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in 2001, and "Arts for Social Responsibility Award" in 2004. She was also awarded with the "International Bill of Human Rights Award" by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva, Switzerland.
